New Record

Beating out the old record of 1.5 hours waiting time in the doctor's office when we have an appointment, the girls and I reached a new record today:

2.5 hours

Ah, these are the good days.

Doesn't matter, it's the norm here. Today's doctor has a new computer program that's slowing everyone down. My OB/GYN is always about 1 to 1.5 hours behind because of delays at the hospital or emergencies. Our first pediatrician here was the same, so I switched doctors, thinking, like you, that's ridiculous. I can't be expected to wait with a baby for that long. Next pediatrician, same thing. Just seems to be one of the many prices one pays for living here. My friend that moved from here to Connecticut called me after her first pediatrician visit, dazed and amazed that there had been no wait and the doctor took a half hour with each kid.

let's hope this turns into one of the things you won't miss... meaning, let's hope wait times are shorter in VA/DC

Yikety-yikes, man. Our waiting room has a sign that states you are to go speak to the receptionist if you have been waiting more than 20 minutes. I laughed the first time I saw that, but then I used it once, and they rescheduled me for another day- during the Dr's lunch hour! Very nice.

Wow, I dream of 20-minute waits. The appointment was with my primary care doc who I've never used so I could get a referral for a podiatrist because there's something wrong with my foot. So on the one hand, it's like I HAD TO WAIT THAT LONG FOR A REFERRAL??? On the other hand, at least it was better than waiting with a sick kid or being sick myself and having the kids. I came prepared with snacks, books, portable dvd player and doodle pads but it was still a tough wait on them. The desk ladies took pity and gave them lollipops, which Ginger used to get most of the fabric chairs sticky. By the end, they were literally running around in circles.

The previous record of 1.5 hours was when I was pregnant with Ginger and Hazel was really sick - waiting at the pediatrician's in a room full of sick kids with my miserable daughter staring glassy-eyed at the wall, wondering if we're all going to walk away better or more sick from the experience.

I cannot even imagine waiting that long. They must have constant melt downs in their waiting room. I remember once waiting 30 minutes and Aly about drove me crazy taking trips to the drinking fountain every five-seconds and running from one end of the room to the other. There was a time when Brooklyn was first born that between her and Aly's wellness visits we were at the doctors every two weeks. I would have gone insane with your wait.

If I had to wait that long I would totally camp out bring in my portable DVD player and a picnic.

Yikes! We have had some tough waits for doctors, but that was because the kids were sick not because we had to wait 2 1/2+ hours. Good thing you came prepared.
