Say Along with Disco Mom - Movie Quotes!

Updated with answers!

Tonight I've put my to-do list on the shelf and settled down in front of the AFI 100 Years 100 Movies special on CBS. During the commercial I went to the AFI website and found all their other "100 Movies" lists and thought it'd be fun to do some stuff with those lists on here once in awhile. So as an extension to the Singalong series, let's do some quotes, shall we? And for this one I do have to insist you do it from your head and don't cheat with the internet. Where's the fun in that?

Name the movies these quotes come from:

1. Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn. Gone with the Wind
2. Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death. Auntie Mame
3. Snap out of it! Moonstruck
4. Hasta la vista, baby. Terminator 2
5. You've got to ask yourself one question: do you feel lucky? Well do ya punk? Dirty Harry
6. Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine. Casablanca
7. I'm walking here! I'm walking here! Midnight Cowboy
8. I am big! It's the picture that got small. Sunset Boulevard
9. Go ahead, make my day. Sudden Impact (Dirty Harry)
10. Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night. All About Eve
11. You don't understand! I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender, instead of a bum, which is what I am. On the Waterfront
12. You talking to me? Taxi Driver
13. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Apocalypse Now
14. I have always depended on the kindness of strangers. Streetcar Named Desire
15. What we have here is a failure to communicate. Sweetie Pie Cool Hand Luke

Some great ones here...has anyone seen all of them? (FYI, Casablanca was the most represented on the AFI list, with seven quotes.)

8) No idea. Maybe 'Big'? Citizen Kane?
9) Dirty Harry again (didn't realize you were such a fan, Kari!)
10) probably Casablanca?
11) On the Waterfront
12) Goodfellas?
13) Apocalypse Now
14) Is that Gone with the Wind again?
15) Definitely Cool Hand Luke

Watched that special with my house last night. I annoyed everyone by quoting lines before the characters did.

1.Dave is right of course
2.Wow, stumped right off the bat. It ain't Casablanca, that's for sure, but I don't know.
3.Seriously Dave. Why do you know this movie so well.
4.I agree, it's T2, the kid teaches him pidgin Spanish
5.It's the first one. Dirty Harry. The rest had odd names. Magnum Force and what not.
6.I love that movie.
7.Um ah. Kristina. I'm not sure if you were kidding or not, since I don't know you, so I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt here. It's Midnight Cowboy. and every time it's been used since then: Lost, Forest Gump, Back to the Future 2, and indeed, Miss Congeniality; has been a homage or parody.
8.Sunset Blvd. (Thank you Tiny Toons)
9.I concur with the gang
10.Dave, Casablanca is not like Perth Australia, it can not be everything to everyone. This is Bette Davis in All about Eve. I admit I only know this because it makes these lists so often I have added it to memory without ever haven seen the film.
11.I have never seen this movie, but it might be (along with yelling Stella) the only thing you have to know to do a Brando impersonation that everyone can guess.
12.Taxi Driver! I love this movie, great choice!
13. Apocalypse Now. So much easier to understand than Heart of Darkness. Stupid Conrad. You make Davey's head hurt.
14. Gone with the Wind. I'm not trying to start a fight here, but does every woman in America love this movie, or just the crazy women I have dated?
15.Cool Hand Luke. Guns and Roses used it in a song. Anybody want to guess?

Re: Moonstruck - as you can tell, i have a sister who likes it. Actually the 4 awards thing on your blog was a total shot in the dark.

re: Casablanca - at first I thought Kari was saying 7 of these 15 were from Casablanca, so i decided to put it in wherever I could

Well it's nice to know people are still reading, since the comments have slowed to a trickle. Just need the right material, I guess.

1. Of course, obvious. Wanted to make you feel like you are doing well (name that movie!)
2. Wow, a stumper for all three! I'll leave it open a little longer for more guesses...but no cheating!
3. Alas, it's true, I do love that movie. Good job, that's my dave.
4. Yes, D&D, T2. Very close, Kristina, half credit.
5. Kudos, davey, the first one.
6. Yes, Casablanca. I liked it better than the other Casablanca quotes that are way too cliche.
7. Kudos again davey and Kristina. I've never seen Midnight Cowboy but I did know this line was parodied a lot so it had to come from somewhere.
8. Impressive, davey.
9. Interesting. All three said Dirty Harry (I'm not such a fan, dave...) But the AFI list claims another source - a movie made later than Dirty Harry. Any other guesses?
10. Yes, All about Eve.
11. Yes, On the Waterfront
12. Yes, Taxi Driver.
13. Classic Apocalypse Now. One of my favorite movies I don't like to watch.
14. No, not Gone with the Wind...(yes, davey I love that movie and I'm not crazy and of course we never dated...) But that's not where the quote is from.
15. Sweetie Pie Cool Hand Luke (that's what they should have named it.) I don't know which G&R song it's in, but I want to.

Scores:
dave - 8
kristina - 5.5
davey - 11

Still looking for answers for 2, 9, 14. No movies are used twice on my list. Thanks for playing!

FYI I've only seen 6 of the 15 quoted here. Obviously I need to get with it.

Wow, now four of us think it's Dirty Harry!

Streetcar! D'oh! I even refrenced it in my comments (Stellaaaaaa!!!) Way to go David with an umlaut.

Still no idea on 2, or the right answer for 9.

Guns and Roses Civil War.

re: #9 - Are you sure it's not a later Dirty Harry movie, like The Dead Pool or, uh, help me out here people, one of the others?

Disco Mom said...

Uh, yes, I should have done my research better. #9 is Sudden Impact, which is indeed a Dirty Harry so you're all right.

Well done DP on #14 - Streetcar.

#2 is Auntie Mame, which maybe D-my-bro should have gotten because it is on the Younce Classics list, but I can't expect it of the rest of you.

Wow, I knew so few of these. I guess I haven't seen most of them, so there's my excuse. I got the Casablanca and Gone with the wind, and should have gotten some of the others... #14 is from Streetcar Named Desire, I think. #2 is spoken by a woman... can barely picture it... what is it... what is it... Auntie Mame?

Sorry for coming in late and guessing things that were already revealed, but those last several comments weren't showing up when I was typing!
