Never Had One Lesson!

Last night was the ward Primary Talent Show. So cute. I asked Hazel a few weeks ago if or what she wanted to perform and she was very clear: "ballet dancing." I thought she might change her mind each time I asked her so I asked several more times over the next week and it was always the same answer: "ballet dancing."

"Ballet dancing" at our house consists of putting on the Nutcracker cd, putting on dancing skirts, and flitting around. Fair enough. A 3-year-old can get away with anything at a ward talent show, so I put her on the program, not at all sure if she would even go through with it in front of an audience.

Last Sunday I figured we better practice at least once, so I went rummaging through a bag of hand-me-downs from my nieces and came up with a pink leotard that fit, a pair of slightly-small pink ballet slippers, and a pink tutu Grandma Marsha made for Aunt Jenice about 30 years ago.

When we put them on, Hazel was transformed, inside and out, and when the music started she looked and danced like a real ballerina. Ed and I were shocked and spent the next 3 minutes sputtering and laughing to tears at the adorableness.

And sure enough, with poise and grace, she did the same performance for the ward last night. Seriously, I did not choreograph or tell her a single thing to do except to curtsy at the end. The rest is ALL Hazel. (Advance apologies for the distracting auto-focus.)

Behold, my tiny dancer:

...and she is now registered for a summer dance class.

that was wonderful. I loved all her fast and slow changes of rhythms and the hands on hips surveying her adoring public at the end. What a hit!

Kari!! she is amazing... she had Christina and her little friends captivated.... we have watched it about 7 times now and they are all flitting around the house doing the "Hazel Dance"! Just wonderful... she is quite the little ballerina.

Wow, I can't believe she held her arms in position the entire piece! And she really knows the music. I have a feeling she will take to dance from the second she walks in the door.

Oh my gosh, I can't stop laughing. This is awesome! You know, my cousins and siblings choreographed a silly little dance to this same Nutcracker piece. We dance it every Christmas Eve (and, mark my words, look absolutely ridiculous doing so). Maybe someday I'll have to teach Hazel. :)

Adorable, and she did so well with the crowd. Hilde is at the age that if anyone laughs at her, she thinks they are making fun of her so I can envision a total meltdown. I am so impressed at how brave Hazel was, and what a great job she did.

I know. The complete absence of stage fright baffles but pleases me. I was nervous enough for both of us! If she can only hold onto that and go through life with that kind of confidence she'll be spared a lot of pointless stress.

While I love the leaps I think my favorite is the little wrist move around 2:00.

Oh my goodness! I was laughing and crying. It's just so funny but so beautiful! Look at how she lets the music move her! She's a natural. She's even got the ballet dancer's delicate hand position thing going on. Thanks for sharing this. It's delightful.
