The Easter Bunny at Our House

Smiling is a newly acquired skill for Ginger so it tickles me inside every time I see it. She had a nice smiley session Easter morning so I put the ears on her and took some pictures. And besides going to church, which we do every Sunday anyway, that was it for traditional Easter celebrating. I didn't do baskets because honestly the girls are too young to care (and Hazel just got a bunch of stuff for her birthday), and after 5 years of marriage I've come to accept that Ed doesn't care either. I used to make him cool, thoughtful, fun Easter baskets but they were not appreciated to my satisfaction. And of course no one made one for me, are you kidding? Wouldn't even occur to...anyone. So our Easter Bunny visit was brief this year, but about as adorable as could be.

What did the Easter Bunny bring you?

kari,

can you believe they don't care? (husbands) i was baffled by it when i first learned of it, and also that millions (probably billions) of other husbands feel the same way.

are there husbands who do care? are dave pulsipher, dave younce and isaac among them?

we should've dispensed with the chocolate for our two. lovely friends and neighbors were very thoughtful in remembering luca and sofia with easter chocolate, but i've hidden most of it from them b/c that's all they want to eat. however, i should've just thrown it out b/c now that's all i want to eat...

Care about Easter? Sorry, nope. It's just another holiday invented by Halmark to sell more greeting cards... (KIDDING!)

Seriously, it's all I can do to hit the mall on Christmas eve, and even remebering that one takes a bit of concentration over here.

One exception to the I-don't-care-about-holidays attitude: wife's birthday. I know better than to let that one slip by without a relentless barrage of presents and attention.

the easter bunny brought me a crippling back injury.

i don't care about easter really. from a religious stand point, i try to focus the elements of Christ's life emphasized at easter, more than once a year... so... it's really a redundant holiday.

we used to celebrate "bunny day" on saturday before easter at my home, that way we wouldn't get confused between baskets filled with peeps, and resurrection.

Hey Dave P - Do you happen to have a sister named Lashley?

Kari, maybe your mom & female siblings/inlaw sibs would be up for a rotating Easter basket exchange. I'll make one for you... someone else makes one for me...
Hey, maybe we should do it for Christmas stockings too. There's another one that I'm tired of making for myself. (Look! I got a.. oh, yeah, I bought that for myself)

perhaps, who's asking?

Actually neither Dave nor I really get into Easter, Valentine's day, etc. Dave encouraged me to go to Target to buy the easter stuff for the kids the day before Easter and that was mostly because he also wanted me to buy him socks!

Well, if perhaps = yes, then it remains a small world after all.

We met her last year when she was here in Dubai for her government sponsored transportation research / fellowship thing.

Tona -
I'm all for it. I was thinking next year I would get myself something like this or hey, why not this but doing an exchange would be even better. That way I could have the fun of making it and the satisfaction of knowing someone will appreciate it, and also the surprise of getting one I didn't make (or order) myself! Love it. And here, here re: stockings too. Lame...

Dave P -
Since he still hasn't introduced himself, "i" is my friend Isaac Wait who I met at BYU and have known for 13 years. I can vouch for his good character and excellent choice in friends but not his maturity level. He's a professor (I can hardly believe it, or say it with a straight face!) at the American University of Sharjah in Dubai.

Isaac,
Dave P is my friend from Colorado, same ward where I met Ed so we've known him for about 7 years. I can vouch for him as well, including maturity. He can shake it down with the best of them and provides some of the only interesting Sunday School commentary I've ever heard. He's at UCLA doing graduate work in Urban Planning.

Sorry, I've never met Lashley but I'm sure she's wonderful :)

So Kari--

I want in on this Easter basket & Christmas stocking exchange too! For almost 9 years I have thoughtfully put together baskets and stockings for my better half, thinking he was doing the same for me. (You'd think after 9 years I would've gotten a clue!!)Pretty soon, I learned that like Tona, if I wanted a "surprise" on either of these holidays, I better shop for myself.

So, sign me up!! How fun would it be to exchange presents from across the country?!!

Great, my cover's blown. Now I can't let loose with all the immature comments I'd been storing up.

Time to activate my powerful cloak of anonymity.

Kari,

My husband is also not a big Easter fan. He is kind of creeped out by the whole Easter Bunny concept. I buy all things Easter, from the clothes to the baskets. I don't get a basket, but I do save myself a generous portion of the "good" candy.

However, I do think it's possible to communicate when a holiday is really important to you. Sometimes it takes years, but eventually the message can take hold. ;)

Kari,

What a cutie you have there!!! It looks like it takes great effort to lift those chubby cheeks. It makes me want to eat her up! How fun to see the babies grow!
